An injection-molded plastic kit of the American Cessna A-37B Dragonfly light attack aircraft in 1:72 scale from Academy. The model has finely engraved surface detail, a decently equipped cockpit, a separate canopy and a rich choice of underwing stores. An optional refueling probe is usually included as well. It is a rewarding kit of medium difficulty. The exact contents of the box and the marking options are given in the enclosed instructions.
The A-37 Dragonfly was a light attack and counter-insurgency aircraft developed from the T-37 jet trainer. It was powered by a pair of small jet engines and carried heavy armament on its wing pylons as well as a rapid-firing machine gun. The A-37B version was a strengthened combat variant with the ability to refuel in flight. It was used above all during the Vietnam War for close support of ground units; its agility and toughness earned it a good name and it later served in a number of other countries.
Paint and assemble the cockpit before you close the fuselage. Apply a primer to the plastic. Vietnam machines wore the typical three-color camouflage (two greens and a brown) with a light underside — an ideal job for an airbrush and soft transitions. Assemble and paint the rich load of stores separately and hang them only at the end. Bring out the engraved detail with a dark wash and lay the decals on a gloss coat. Exhaust streaks and chipped paint around the access panels will give the machine a used look.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
