1:72 Heinkel He 51B-1: Spanish Air Force Fighter-Biplane is a kit of the German fighter biplane in Spanish service.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the German He 51 fighter biplane in the B-1 version, in the form in which it served in Spain, in 1:72 scale. The small biplane with its open cockpit is a rewarding subject in which the result is decided by the accurate seating of the upper wing and cleanly made struts.
The He 51 was one of the first fighters of the newly built Luftwaffe of the 1930s. It was a classic biplane with fixed landing gear, an open cockpit and a liquid-cooled engine. By the time it appeared it was already conceptually on the way out, because faster monoplanes with enclosed cockpits were entering service. In Spain machines of this type went into combat and it soon became clear that they were no match for modern opponents, so they moved mainly to attacks on ground targets.
Seat the upper wing using a jig that holds both the dihedral and the angle, and glue the struts one at a time. Tension the bracing wires only at the end. Finish the cockpit before you close up the fuselage, because an open cockpit gives a good view inside. The finishes of the machines in Spain tended to be simple, so the model is brought to life more by a light differentiation of the panels and traces of use than by strong weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
