Clear Prop Models Kaman UH-2C Seasprite 1:72

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Kaman UH-2C Seasprite shipborne helicopter in 1:72 scale from the Ukrainian maker Clear Prop Models. It is a modern kit from a recent tooling with fine surface detail; the box contains several frames of plastic parts including one clear one, a fret of photo-etched parts and decals for three different schemes. Color, clearly laid-out instructions make the assembly easier. Thanks to the rich detail it is a rewarding kit for more advanced builders.

The real subject

The Kaman UH-2 Seasprite is an American shipborne helicopter of the US Navy, used for search and rescue, liaison, transport and later for anti-submarine tasks as well. A characteristic feature of the Kaman design is the main rotor with so-called servo flaps on the blades. The UH-2C version is the twin-engine form, which compared with the original single-engine variant gained higher power and reliability. The machine operated from the decks of warships, where it filled the role of a general-purpose shipborne helicopter.

Building and painting tips

Glue the plastic parts with liquid modeling cement and attach the fine photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Mask the glazing of the cabin and glue it only after painting, so that it stays clear. Apply a primer before painting. Work carefully on the rotor and the fine parts and fit them at the end of the build. A combination of an airbrush and fine emphasis of the panels comes out well on the typical naval gray schemes.
