About product

Ki-21-Ib Sally 1:72 (ICM)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Japanese twin-engined Mitsubishi Ki-21-Ib heavy bomber in 1:72 scale from ICM. The kit is marked by a finely engraved surface texture and crisply molded parts, and it holds decal options. The model is supplied unglued and unpainted.

The real subject

The Ki-21, designated the Army Type 97 heavy bomber, was an all-metal twin-engined monoplane with a numerous crew. The Ib version brought strengthened defensive armament including a tail machine gun and further modifications. Among the Allies the aircraft carried the code name Sally, and it was among the main bombers of the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force.

Building and painting tips

We recommend liquid cement for plastic and assembling the interior before the fuselage is closed up. The glazed parts of the cockpit and of the gunners' positions will stand out if the framing is masked; an airbrush over a filler primer makes an even coat easier and fine weathering brings out the delineation of the surface.

Who the model is for

  • For collectors of Japanese aviation of the Second World War
  • For modelers who will appreciate the smaller 1:72 scale
  • For anyone interested in twin-engined bombers

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
