A kit of the Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II fighter in 1:72 scale from Revell, built on a new mold.
Responsibility details are not available.
The model captures the land-based F-35A variant, that is the version with conventional takeoff and landing from a concrete runway. Revell prepared a new mold for it, so this is not older plastic in a new box. The box holds injection-molded parts, a decal sheet and instructions with a recommended paint breakdown.
The Lightning II came about as a joint platform for the air force, the navy and the marines, and the A variant is the lightest of the three and by far the most numerous. It carries its armament in internal bays to keep its radar signature low, it relies on a powerful F135 series powerplant and above all on sensor fusion, which assembles a single picture of the surroundings for the pilot. The type has been ordered by dozens of states including the Czech Republic, which decided on twenty-four aircraft in 2024 as a replacement for the Gripens it had been leasing until then.
The whole impression rests on shades of gray and on the fine differences between the individual panels with the absorbent layer. It pays to spray a base coat, then the darkest areas and finally to unify everything with a heavily thinned top color. Keep the highlighting of the engraved lines in check, because exaggerated contrast looks out of place on this aircraft. The canopy glazing has a golden tinge, which you achieve with a thin coat of tinting varnish.
The plastic parts come unpainted and unassembled; glue and paints have to be bought separately.
