This collector's figure in polyurethane resin belongs to the line that Royal Model casts in a size of around seventy-five millimeters and itself places at 1:24 scale. The subject is light-hearted: a female figure in a Christmas-themed costume, that is a piece meant for a display case and a show table rather than for a combat scene. The sculpture was made by Roberto Reale.
The Christmas pin-up is an advertising tradition of the last century: a cap with a white trim, red fabric and a playful pose appeared on calendars and postcards from the 1950s onward. In figure modeling it has become a rewarding practice subject, because it combines skin, smooth red fabric, a fur trim and glossy accessories, that is four entirely different surfaces on one small sculpture.
A deep red is often low in opacity, so build it over a light pink or orange base and only then bring the shadows out with a violet tone. White fur comes off best as a light gray base with cool highlighting of the edges. On a figure this size the skin areas make up the main part of the impression, so it pays to work with oils and a longer drying time.
