Dornier Do 217 is a monograph on the German twin-engine bomber. It came out in the British Warpaint 24 series, which devotes each volume to a single aircraft type and sums up its development, service and appearance in a single booklet in A4 format. The volume was written by Jerry Scutts. The publication is in English. It is not a kit and not an accessory for building a model.
The Do 217 was developed from the Do 17 and against that type it carried a substantially larger bomb load over a greater range. The Luftwaffe used it as a bomber, but night fighter versions with dense armament in the nose also came about, along with machines converted for the use of the Fritz X and Hs 293 guided weapons against shipping targets. It was precisely those conversions that made it one of the first carriers of guided munitions in the war.
The book is meant for builders of German equipment and for anyone interested in the history of the bomber force who is looking for pictorial material and camouflage schemes. The combination of photographs, drawings and color schemes serves as a basis for building and painting a model.
