A monograph on the British subsonic Hunter fighter, volume number 8 of the British Warpaint series, by Alan W Hall. It is a printed publication about the aircraft, not a kit and not an accessory for a build. The series is set up so that one volume covers one type from the prototype to the last version — through archive photographs, color profiles and scale drawings.
The Hunter is among the most cleanly drawn British aircraft of all and it is still cited as a textbook example of balanced aerodynamics. It was powered by a Rolls-Royce Avon engine, its armament was four 30 mm ADEN cannons in a removable pack under the nose, and in 1953 Neville Duke took the absolute world speed record with it. In time the interceptor became mainly a ground-attack aircraft — the FGA.9 version carried bombs and unguided rockets. The Hunter also became one of the biggest British export successes: it flew in the colors of a number of foreign air forces and some of them kept it in service into the 1990s, so the choice of finishes for a model is exceptionally wide.
Above all for modelers who are building a model of this type and are looking for reference on the colors, the markings and the details of a particular machine. Then for aviation historians and collectors of monographs, who will find the series a quick and clear reference handbook to a single type. The text is in English, so a basic command of the language is assumed.
