Three sanding pads of clear acrylic in three widths, together with self-adhesive abrasive papers. Acrylic flexes slightly under pressure, so a pad follows a curve, but it is stiff enough not to copy the unevenness you are meant to remove. On shaped faces that is exactly the property a hard plate and a soft sponge both lack.

Three widths, one grit

The widest pad covers an ordinary face, the medium one narrower panels and the narrowest reaches between details. The 1000 grit is fine: it barely removes material any more and prepares the surface for the last step. On models with a matte finish the whole sanding procedure often ends with it.

How to work with them

• Stick the paper onto a clean surface; it will not hold on dust and shifts on the first stroke.
• Guide the pad on its whole face and with a smooth stroke.
• Clean the part between grits, as a grain from the coarser step will make a scratch.
• Replace a clogged paper; a blocked abrasive burnishes the surface instead of cutting it.

Who it is for

The set is for modelers who finish shaped faces. Acrylic sanding pads go well together with rigid sanding plates: a plate levels a flat face, a pad finishes a shape. The line comes in several grits, so the whole procedure can be put together.

Do not breathe in the sanding dust from plastic and resin; work with extraction or at least with a respirator.
