Acrylic Color CYBER YELLOW

A sharp yellow for technical subjects

While traditional modeling yellows tend to be warm and grounded, this shade goes the opposite way: it is cold, sharp and looks almost as if it were glowing. It is exactly such a color that subjects from the near future call for, urban settings hung with neon and racing machines whose finish is meant to shout across the whole circuit.

Where it finds most use

It suits warning stripes on machinery, the displays and light features of robots, sports suits, helmets and any surface that is to catch the eye at once. In combination with a dark gray or black it gains the greatest force, because the contrast of a cold yellow against a neutral dark is the highest possible. Over a brown and green base it loses, by contrast; there reach for a warmer tone.

Thinning and spraying

The basis is water, with which the paint mixes without trouble. If it is to pass through a nozzle, it pays to use an acrylic thinner instead of water - the consistency then stays stable and the paint does not lose adhesion. It is thinned gradually, drop by drop, and judged only after a test spray onto scrap, not by how it looks in the cup. A saturated pigment means that even a thinned layer has something to give, so two fine mists are usually enough.

The paint comes from a range built for miniatures, vehicles and gaming figures and can be added to shade by shade. Because a saturated yellow is applied on small areas rather than over a whole model, it lasts even for a modeler who reaches for it regularly. The cap seats tightly and limits the access of air, so the contents do not thicken even in a period when you do not come back to them for a while.
