An unhealthily yellow-green shade for undead flesh, swamps and spoiled surfaces. An acrylic in a 17ml bottle.

GANGRENE is a yellow-green pulled into a position that looks unhealthy, and that is exactly the point. Such a tone is carried by the skin of the undead, the leathery wings of monsters, the surface of standing water, mold on masonry and the slime around a waste pipe on a sci-fi station. Outside fantastic subjects it suits organic dirt on a diorama, where a clean green would look like a fresh lawn.
The pigment settles to the bottom faster than with lighter tones. The ball in the bottle lifts it, but it pays to shake longer, until an even sound is heard, otherwise the binder comes out of the dropper first and the shade comes out paler. For a glaze over a flesh color a few drops are thinned with water and applied into the recesses, where a matte hint of rot stays once dry.
Before the work it is good to know where the shade belongs in the overall composition. As the main tone of a whole character it tends to be too aggressive, but in the role of a transition between a brown base and a light bone it holds a scene together and does not overpower the other colors.
A combination that works: a darker brown-green base, this shade as the main tone and finally a dry brush of bone white on the edges. That creates the impression that the color comes out from inside the material. On large smooth areas it is better, by contrast, to thin it and lay it in two thin coats, so that the texture of the surface stays visible.
