Imperium Blue is a saturated blue tone set toward the dark, intended for large continuous areas. It finds use on uniforms and cloaks, on the colored fields of shields and above all on the armor of whole squads, where the shade has to stand being repeated on dozens of figures without a change. It is in work like that in particular that you find out whether a paint covers reliably or whether every piece differs according to the number of coats.
Darker blue tones usually call for a lighter surface underneath. Here the pigment is dense, so the first coat already evens the area out and the second only levels it off. For large sets of figures it is suitable to spray the paint with an airbrush, because the coat then settles evenly and no brush marks are left that would show on flat armor.
It thins with water, dries without gloss and takes the ordinary finishing procedures, that is a wash into the joints and pulling the edges out with a lighter blue. There are seventeen milliliters in the bottle, the neck is a dropper one and the metal ball inside stirs the pigment before the palette can even be brought out.
With a uniform army color it pays to mix a stock of the lighter variant into a bottle in advance and to write the ratio down. When another figure is added to the squad after a month, the transition on it then looks the same as on the earlier ones.
