Olivegrove Green lies exactly where the color of an olive leaf meets the settled field greens. It is warmer and grayer than the lacquer green of fantasy figures, and that is why modelers reach for it for tarpaulins, crates, barrels and for the body panels of vehicles, where a pure green would look out of place. It serves just as well on broad-leaved shrubs and on lawns that are not meant to be fresh but rather dried out by the summer sun.
The dense pigment holds the shade even in a thinner coat, so it can be laid down thinly and the base left showing through. The matte structure after drying is desirable in itself on military equipment, but above all it makes it possible to continue with pigments or a dark varnish without the risk that the surface will start to shine.
It is applied with a brush straight from the bottle, and into an airbrush after thinning with acrylic thinner. It thins and washes off with water while the coat is fresh. The dropper doses exactly as much as is being used, so the paint does not dry out needlessly on the palette.
This tone moreover takes dirtying well. Once dry it carries an oil line and dry pigments, so a dusty surface arises without any further repainting. When rinsing, just watch that water does not stay standing in the deep grooves of a casting.
