About product

Acrylic molds - Zig Zag Pavement: an acrylic mold for zigzag paving

An aid for diorama work from the Spanish label Green Stuff World. It is a rigid acrylic mold into which pliable modeling putty is pressed to take an impression of a paved surface. The Zig Zag Pavement subject matches zigzag interlocking pavers, that is the surface everyone knows today from sidewalks, squares and parking areas. It is not a finished part; you make the surface yourself.

Where the paving comes into its own

A paved area is a rewarding thing in a diorama, because it sets the period and the place at once. The zigzag pattern looks modern and urban, so it suits present-day scenes, today's figures and vehicles, pedestrian zones and the areas in front of buildings. Making it yourself has the advantage over ready-made panels that you bound the area exactly to the scene and the pattern continues where you need it.

How to work with the mold

Roll the putty out into an even slab and press it into the mold with one even push rather than in parts, so that the pattern does not break anywhere. Lightly dampen the surface of the mold before taking the impression, or treat it with a release agent, so that the putty does not stick. Once it has hardened, take the impression out and trim it to the shape you need. A dark shade then runs very well into the joints between the pavers and deepens the whole area visually.

Who the mold is for

  • Builders of urban and present-day dioramas
  • Modelers who want to make their surfaces themselves and repeatedly
  • Makers of gaming terrain and bases for figures
  • Anyone who needs a larger paved area made to their own measure
