The fan cap turns the usual cone into a flat pattern spread out to the sides, the kind you know more from spray guns. One pass therefore covers a far wider band than ordinary spraying, and the base coat of a large fuselage, a cargo bed or a wing melts away under your hands. The version matches the 0.5 mm setup and is intended for the GHAC-Swallowtail airbrush.
It proves itself wherever evenness over an area is the point: primer coats, overall shades, the final clear coat before decals and wide transitions. For fine lines, small masked shapes or painted figures it is the wrong choice, and there you should stay with the cone pattern. The difference in working speed shows above all in large scales, where every superfluous pass counts.
Hold the cap parallel to the surface and keep a steady distance, or the band will vary in density. Overlap the individual passes by about half and do not stop in the middle of an area. Thin the paint more than you are used to and keep watching whether dried paint is starting to collect at the edge. Clean the part thoroughly after spraying, as the wider slot clogs faster.
