The air cap is a small but crucial part at the tip of an airbrush. It surrounds the nozzle with the needle and decides how and where the air stream meets the paint, that is, the width of the line, the sharpness of its edge and how evenly the paint settles on the surface. According to the name this Gaahleri part is intended for the GHAC-Swallowtail airbrush and it creates a regular round spray pattern that covers evenly in the middle and at the edges alike.
It makes sense for owners of the GHAC-Swallowtail airbrush who want a second one to hand. The cap is the most exposed component of the whole airbrush and a bent rim shows at once: the line sprays out to the sides, starts to pull to one side and the paint collects on the needle tip. A spare part in the drawer means that work in progress does not stop because of one clumsy moment at the bench.
Tighten the cap with your fingers only, never with pliers, because the thread is fine. Take it off after spraying and let it soak in cleaner. Do not scrape dried paint off it with a metal tool, as a scratched interior permanently changes the shape of the line.
