The silver metallic shade from the ATOM range of the AMMO of Mig Jimenez brand is intended for modeling use. Metallic shades differ from opaque colors in that they hold fine metal particles which turn within the coat and reflect light. That is where their look comes from, and why they call for a different approach than an ordinary flat shade.
Silver suits bare metal surfaces, exhausts, landing gear legs, barrels, tools and small features meant to read as metal. It also comes into its own when suggesting worn paint, where a dry brush or a mere touch carries the sheen onto the edges and raised parts that hands and cargo rubbed against in service.
Stir the container thoroughly before work, as the metal particles settle at the bottom and poorly stirred paint covers unevenly. The base has to be smooth, because a metallic coat accentuates every scratch. Apply thin coats and let them flash off, as a heavy coat loses its sheen. Use the thinner and the thinning ratio according to the manufacturer instructions on the packaging. Metallic surfaces are delicate toward masking tape and toward subsequent clear coating, so it is better to finish them last on a model.
The thinner, brushes, airbrush and a model are not included, unless stated otherwise.
