A metal fastener with a hexagon head 0.7 mm in diameter for building motorcycle models. It replaces filing the flats on a piece of wire by hand.
Responsibility details are not available.
Making a head that small at home means clamping a piece of wire, carefully forming six flats of the same width on it and trusting that the file will not slip even once. Practice tends to be different: the first three flats come out clean, the remaining three do not, and the finished piece then gets turned on the model so that the side that worked out faces outward. Here you get the head ready made, with sharp edges and a flat mating surface underneath it.
The diameter measured across the head is given in the name as 0.7 mm, which in 1:12 scale is a sensible size for small threaded joints: the mounting of covers, turn signal brackets, small cable clips or the caps on the engine case. Against a molded plastic stub this part has real geometry, so the shine of metal will take on it and so will dark pigment in the shadow of the edges.
The fitting stands or falls with the hole. Guide the drill bit at right angles, best of all in a collet holder and without pressure, otherwise it will wander in the soft plastic and the joint will seat crooked. Better mark the hole first with the tip of a needle. Dose cyanoacrylate glue with the tip of a wire, not straight from the bottle.
Tip the bag of small metal parts into a shallow dish with a lid as soon as you open it. Spilled contents are considerably harder to gather off a table than off a bounded surface.
