What these accessories are for
Injection-moulded styrene has limits that show badly on a bike. A chain arrives as a solid loop with no gaps between the links, brake hoses are usually absent altogether, and fasteners are soft bumps in the surface. Photo-etched brass, cast resin and turned metal remove those compromises, and because a motorcycle's mechanicals sit in the open the improvement is more visible than on any other subject.
How to choose the right set
By the exact kit
Detail sets and conversion kits are engineered for one particular kit, and the product description always names it. Check the machine, the version and the year before buying; a set cut for one variant will not sit on another even when the bikes look alike.
By scale
Most of what exists is made for 1:12 motorcycle kits. For 1:9 the choice is narrower and centres on metal forks and running-gear parts. Screws, hoses and wiring are the exception: they are universal and chosen by diameter rather than by kit.
By how much practice you have
Start with wiring and fasteners, which forgive a shaky first attempt and transform the look of an engine bay in an evening. Photo-etched brass and complete detail sets need tweezers, cyanoacrylate and a willingness to work under magnification.
The types stocked
Metal and resin need cyanoacrylate from the adhesives section and decent modelling tools; the machines themselves are in motorcycle model kits.
