The brand offers the same joint in four versions according to what it is tightened with. Torx has a star-shaped recess, a socket head an internal hex, Phillips a cross mark and minus a single straight slot. It is no whim: each drive belongs to a different period and to a different part of the machine, and anyone who mixes them up on a model gives it away close up just as reliably as a wrong color.
The straight notch is the oldest of the four and on motorcycles it has survived mainly on caps, on clips and in places where the bolt is treated as a consumable. A modern sports machine will have more internal hexes, a classic from the 1970s more slots instead.
Eleven tenths is already a dimension that stands up to rougher treatment. After insertion the head can be leveled with a flat tool without being dented, and the notch survives even a careful darkening. Apply the dark line into the slot with a sharpened point, not with a brush: a drop of paint fills the whole notch and the result then looks like a blind dot.
Keep the leftover pieces together with their paper bed; one day they will be missing. Builders usually create their own case by diameter over time, because hunting for a particular size in one shared box is a waste of time and a risk that the dimensions get mixed up.
