Basing Sets - Desert

Basing Sets - Desert

Basing Sets - Desert is a themed Green Stuff World set meant for finishing the bases of figures and models into a desert setting. It is a set of aids for one particular type of landscape, thanks to which you do not have to put the materials together item by item. The exact make-up is given on the packaging of the set.

The desert as a theme

A desert base lives on what other landscapes do not have: on purity of shape and on the warmth of its shades. Dry ground, fine sandy drifts, a cracked surface and only the odd dried-out plant. That is exactly why the desert is a rewarding theme even for the less experienced, because fewer details are called for and the shade matters more. At the same time desert tones are easily pushed too far toward orange, so it pays to keep to the natural range from light ocher to grayish sand.

How to approach it

• Work from a coarser surface texture toward finer drifts and shades.
• Let every layer dry thoroughly, and only then carry on.
• Keep the shades of the base more muted than the figure, so that the base does not compete with it.
• Unify the theme across a unit, so that the whole formation looks as if it came from one place.

Who the set is for

For players of tabletop battle games and collectors of figures who want to give their bases one uniform desert character, and for modelers working on small desert scenes. Green Stuff World makes further landscape themes in this range, so the individual units of a collection can be told apart by their setting.
