A plastic kit from the Japanese brand Bandai capturing the Batmobile, the vehicle of the comic book hero Batman. With automotive subjects too, Bandai uses the snap-fit system: the parts are already colored in the plastic and snap together, without glue. The version is told apart by the designation in parentheses after the name; the manufacturer also makes a second version of the Batmobile with a different suffix. Check the particular film or comic book subject, the contents of the package and the dimensions of the model on the box.
An automotive subject differs from a robot in one fundamental way: the model stands or falls on the large continuous surfaces of the bodywork. The eye picks out every unevenness on them, every remnant of a gate and every uneven coat of paint. At the same time, a car usually looks best with a deep gloss, and that is precisely the surface snap-fit plastic does not have on its own.
Separate the bodywork parts from the sprue especially carefully, in two stages, and level the rest of the gate with a scalpel held with the blade parallel to the surface. Then sand the surface through progressively finer grits and polish it; that alone gives a noticeably smoother surface. Anyone who wants to go all the way to a showroom gloss applies a thin primer, the paint in light coats and finally several coats of gloss varnish, polished once dry. Leave the chassis and the interior matte, on the other hand; the contrast with the glossy bodywork is what sells the model. It is sensible to assemble it only after varnishing.
The model is built by snapping the parts together; glue is not needed for assembly. Paints, varnishes and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
