BPHD-11 MS Spike 01 is a set of Bandai accessory parts with spikes for models of combat machines. It serves to modify a model already built; the model itself is not included in the package.

This item is an accessory, not a kit. It belongs to the accessory range of parts from Bandai, which you can recognize by the BPHD prefix in the name, and according to the name it contains spikes: the kind of feature fitted to shoulder pieces, shields and armor surfaces of combat machines. It is a simple way to give an otherwise smooth model a more aggressive silhouette without having to cut or shape anything.
A build without glue
The parts are injection-molded from plastic pre-colored right through, just as on the brand's other kits, and they fit without glue. Separate them from the sprue with nippers leaving a small margin and then trim the rest of the gate with a sharp knife, so that the edge does not turn white. Pointed parts break out worst of all, so never put the nippers right at the spike.
Spikes look best when they really are sharp: it pays to shape the end of the part with fine abrasive paper, working from the base toward the tip. Painting is optional, but on this feature in particular it pays off a great deal: a metallic shade on the tip and light chipping on the edges will suggest wear and the part will stop looking plasticky. If you are fitting the spikes into sockets on the model, paint the contact surfaces only very thinly, otherwise the layer of paint will tighten the joint. And reckon with the fact that a sharp part on a displayed model easily catches on a sleeve, so place the model where nobody has to reach around it.
