A section with an open profile in the shape of the letter U and dimensions of 1 x 1 x 1 mm. There is one piece in the package. Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc: compared with plastic it is stronger, it holds its shape even in a profile as small as this and it does not spring back after bending. The walls of the section are thin, so the little part looks delicate on a model and you do not have to thin it down by sanding.
The open U shape stands in on a model for real structural elements with a groove or a lip: guide rails and tracks, the frames of chassis and trailers, the stiffeners of superstructures, the lips of load beds or small structures in a diorama. The section can also be slipped over a thinner square rod or a wire and so make an overlapping joint that would be hard to put together in plastic. It comes in useful on hardware, on ships, on railroads and in architectural structures.
Cut the section with a fine saw or a cutting disc, not with nippers: those squeeze the end and the open U shape closes up. Then level the cut with a file, so that the part seats over its whole surface. The joints can be soldered with tin, which holds most firmly, or glued with super glue. Before painting, degrease the brass and apply a primer meant for metal, otherwise the paint will rub off the smooth surface during handling.
For modelers who make their own parts, convert kits or repair older models. A piece of the section can even stiffen a thin plastic bulkhead that would otherwise bow. Tools, solder, glue and paints are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
