Flex-I-File Flex-Pad medium (280 grit)

A flexible sanding pad from the brand Flex-I-File with a grit of 280. It is a modeling tool, not a kit. The abrasive is laid on a springy foam backing, which spreads the pressure of your fingers evenly and, above all, bends to the shape of the part. That is exactly how the Flex-Pad differs from a hard file: it can work on fuselages, cowlings, keels and other rounded or irregular surfaces, where a flat file would immediately sand a flat spot or go straight through.

Use

• Removing flash and mold seams on curved parts.
• Leveling the remains of casting blocks and sprue gates.
• Leveling dried putty in the seams of a fuselage, wings or a hull.
• Coarser work where material has to come off faster: within the Flex-Pad family the 280 grit is the medium one, that is the coarser of the pair with the 320 grit.
• It can be used dry and wet: wet, there is less dust, the abrasive clogs less and the surface comes out smoother.

How grit numbering works

The rule is that a lower number means a coarser abrasive and a higher number a finer one. You always work from a coarser grit to a finer one, so use the 280 grit first, for rough work, and only then move on to the finer stages. Skipping a step does not pay: a fine abrasive will never smooth out the scratch left by a coarse one, it will only polish it, and it will then show all the more under paint.

Who it is for

For modelers building plastic kits of aircraft, vehicles, ships and figures, in short everywhere the surface is curved and a hard tool will not do. After use, rinse the pad with water and let it dry freely, which will extend its working life.

Do not inhale the sanding dust. Ideally sand wet, and otherwise use respiratory protection and ventilate well. The product is a tool, not a kit.
