This is a modeling brush with synthetic bristles, size 5, from the STANDARD range of the Polish maker Mirage Hobby. It is not a kit and not a model, but a tool for painting. Size five is one of the larger working sizes in this range: it takes considerably more paint than the detail numbers, so you cover an area in fewer strokes and the coat has a chance to level out before it starts to dry.
Size 5 is the larger of the pair. Take it wherever the point is coverage - more paint in the brush means fewer strokes, fewer drying edges and a smoother result. For detail it is unsuitable: in tight places it is clumsy and paint easily gets where it does not belong. For fine work, the equipment of figures and touching up, size 3 is the one, with a narrower stroke and better control. Anyone who paints with a brush regularly usually uses both - the five for areas, the three for detail.
A larger brush soaks up more paint, and all the more important is a thorough wash-out. Clean it immediately after use with a thinner appropriate to the type of paint (water or acrylic thinner with acrylics, solvent thinner with enamels) and make sure no paint has stayed up at the ferrule - that is exactly where it builds up and where it ruins the brush. Do not leave it standing tip down in thinner. Do not press hard on the bristles; a larger size spreads paint without pressure. It dries flat or with the tip upward.
For modelers who brush-paint larger areas and do not want to go over them slowly with a small brush, and as a companion to the detail sizes.
A brush is a tool, not a kit. Paints and thinners are not included in the package. Use thinners in a ventilated space and out of the reach of children.
