Red-brown is one of the shades a modeler rarely mixes accurately and yet needs all the time. It lies on the border between fired clay and dried blood, has a noticeably warm undertone and on a model looks like a surface that has already seen something. In itself it tends to be a base on which further layers are only then laid, because it shows through pleasantly under both darker and lighter coats.
The glass bottle holds ten milliliters. The binder takes thinning with clean water, but the maker's own thinner is also useful to have at hand, as it improves the flow-out and adhesion on smooth plastic. Pigment of this kind tends to settle at the bottom, so stir the bottle thoroughly before every pick-up, ideally with the help of a ball put inside.
For an airbrush the paint is thinned to the consistency of milk and laid on in several light passes. Under a brush, by contrast, a thicker coat works on smaller areas where a stroke mark does not matter. The dried surface has low resistance to abrasion, so secure it with a varnish coat in exposed places.
