A pair of flexible sanding pads with 3200 grit. Used for fine sanding, surface cleanup and preparing a surface before polishing. Two pieces per package.

A grit of 3200 opens the fine end of the abrasive range. In practice this is the stage you move to once coarser paper has leveled seams and removed sprue-gate residue. The pad no longer removes material layer by layer; rather it smooths out the scratches left by the previous step and prepares the surface for even finer stages to build on.
The carrier is pliable, so it follows the shape of the surface beneath it. On a curved fuselage, a wing's leading edge or a rounded fender, it therefore does not just sand the high points, as happens with sandpaper held against a rigid block. At the same time, it can reach into gentle recesses and up to the edges of parts without sanding away a neighboring detail entirely.
The key is to work with no pressure and in short strokes, changing direction every so often so the marks cancel each other out. Check the surface against a bright light regularly, since fine scratches only show up in the reflection. On both plastic and resin, sanding with a little water works well — it carries away the sanded dust and keeps the grit active longer. The package contains two pieces, so you can set one aside for plastic and the other for harder materials, where a pad clogs faster.
It most often comes into play right before spraying the base color. The base coat mercilessly reveals every scratch you missed on bare plastic, so an hour spent on the surface before painting pays off in a clean finish.
