A pair of flexible sanding pads with a 6000 grit. They serve to smooth a surface after coarser sanding stages, preferably wet.
Responsibility details are not available.
Sanding does not end at 400 grit. As soon as plastic, paint or resin is to have a smooth surface with no flat haze, foam pads covered with micro-abrasive come into play. The 6000 stage practically removes no material any more; it only levels out the scratches left by the coarser steps and prepares the surface for polishing or for a gloss varnish.
The package holds two pieces. The backing is flexible, so it readily follows a rounded fuselage, a fender or a gun turret without rounding off the edges the way a rigid sanding plate does. It also reaches into shallow recesses where flat paper rests only on the rims.
Working wet gives the best results. Soak the pad, rinse it regularly while sanding and let the slurry run off. Dry, the abrasive quickly clogs with dust from the plastic and the stage loses its bite before you finish the surface. Use as little pressure as possible, because a dip is easily pressed into soft plastic.
The 6000 grit is the fifth of six steps this range of pads covers; it starts at 3200 and ends at 12000. Skipping steps does not pay: a coarser scratch stays visible under the finer abrasive and shows up again as soon as the part gets a sheen.
Once the work is finished, rinse the pad in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent and let it dry freely. Slurry that hardens in the foam turns a fine stage into an unpredictably coarse tool and does more harm than good on a finished surface. Store the individual grits separately, so that no foreign grain gets in among them.
