This small resin set from the maker Brengun completes the cockpit of Japanese aircraft with the lights that in injected kits are either missing altogether or suggested only by a crude bump. In the large 1:32 scale a cockpit is open to view, and it is precisely such small things that decide whether an interior looks genuine. The scope matches the fact that this is a targeted detail, not a complete rebuild of a cockpit.
A cockpit needed its own lighting for flight in the dark and in reduced visibility, so that the pilot could read the instruments and find the controls without ruining his night vision. The lights were therefore placed so as to light the panel and not shine straight into the eyes. On a model they are rewarding precisely because they are a different shape and color in the middle of an otherwise uniformly painted interior; the eye catches on them and the cockpit immediately looks better filled.
The parts are small, so work over a rim and with good light. Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap, cut the casting blocks off with a thin saw and fine-tune the surfaces by sanding wet with breathing protection. They are glued with super glue applied with the tip of a wire. Set out the placing before closing the fuselage and glue the halves of the cockpit together dry, so that you know where a light will go. After painting with a base coat and the interior color, bring the body of the light out with a darker line and set the shade apart in a metal shade; a drop of clear varnish on the glass gives the impression of a glossy bulb.
The set is an accessory, not a model in its own right. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue, paints and the base kit are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
