PRU Blue is a blue recorded in the British BS 381C standard of shades under number 636. The abbreviation PRU refers to the British photo-reconnaissance units of the Second World War, whose machines flew unarmed and relied on speed and altitude. The overall blue finish was meant to hide the aircraft against the sky when seen from below, which is why it appeared on reconnaissance versions of Spitfires and Mosquitos. The number from the standard is a more reliable guide than the name alone, because there are many verbal names for blues and the tones under them differ.
Stir the contents of the bottle well before use, otherwise the settled pigment shows in the tone and in the coverage. The thinner made for this range and the thinning ratio are given by the manufacturer on the packaging; follow those instructions. Lay the paint down in several thin coats and let the surface set between them. With overall finishes that is crucial: a heavy coat fills in the panel lines and the uniform area then looks like a plastic casting.
An overall color forgives nothing unfinished; every scratch and imperfect joint will show, so sand the surface carefully before spraying. Bring a uniform area to life with a light lightening of the panel centers, and the difference should be on the edge of visibility. Even the surface out with a gloss clear coat before the decals, as on a flat base a white haze appears under a decal. Close the bottle well after work and store it dry and away from frost.
