Chibi-Maru Fleet Soryu with Type 2 Reconnaissance Aircraft is a cute shortened kit of the Japanese aircraft carrier Soryu from Fujimi, completed according to the name with a shipboard reconnaissance aircraft. This is not a scale model but a deliberately distorted, friendly form of the ship.

The aircraft carrier Soryu as rendered by the Chibi-Maru Fleet line of the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi: a shortened hull, enlarged characteristic details and an altogether cute look that makes the finished model a likeable decoration. This is not a scale model — the proportions are deliberately distorted. According to the name the package also completes the ship with a Type 2 shipboard reconnaissance aircraft, so a small scene of a carrier with an aircraft can be put together.
Soryu was a fast aircraft carrier of the Imperial Japanese Navy taken into service in the 1930s. She belonged to the core of the Japanese carrier strike force and took part in operations in the Pacific including the attack on Pearl Harbor. Her service ended in June 1942 in the Battle of Midway, where American dive bombers put her out of action. It was at Midway that fast shipboard reconnaissance aircraft also operated from the decks of Japanese ships, and the aircraft enclosed with this kit recalls that line.
The build is undemanding and quick. Paint the hull in the gray shade of the Imperial Japanese Navy, set the flight deck apart with the brownish yellow tone of a wooden deck and mark its stripes in a darker color. We recommend painting the small aircraft and fitting it only at the end — tweezers make the work easier. A fine wash will bring out the structure of the superstructures. For children we recommend building with the help of an adult because of the glue.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
