The Type 3 Chi-Nu was a Japanese medium tank from the end of the Second World War. It came about because the older Japanese tanks with their armament were no longer a match for the enemy machines, and so it was given a 75 mm gun in the turret. Few pieces were built and they stayed on the Japanese home islands. The set is designated as the version with the long barrel, which is the designation of a variant of the model.
Chibi-Maru is a line of models with deliberately shortened proportions. The machine keeps all its identifying marks, that is, the shape of the turret, the gun, the running gear and the characteristic details, but the whole is compressed into a short, stocky shape. The model therefore does not match any scale; it is a caricature of the real vehicle, not a reduction of it. The finished piece fits in the palm of your hand and beside seriously built models it works as a witty counterpoint.
Follow the instructions and always try the parts dry before separating them from the sprue, so that you know how they fit together. Cut the remains of the gates off a little away from the part and sand them down, as on rounded surfaces every bump otherwise shows. If you are going to glue the parts, use cement for plastic models. Painting is rewarding thanks to the large simple surfaces: lay the base shade down in thin coats and emphasize the subdivisions with a dark wash into the engraving, which stands out well on a stocky shape.
For modelers who want a build for one or two evenings, for collectors of this line and as a gift for someone whose serious modeling is still ahead of them. Paints, glue and thinner are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
