Fujimi Chibi-Maru Zuikaku 1942 is a cute shortened kit of the Japanese aircraft carrier Zuikaku in her 1942 form — a caricature model with no scale from the popular Chibi-Maru line.
Responsibility details are not available.
In its Chibi-Maru line the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi shortens famous warships into chubby caricatures — and the aircraft carrier Zuikaku in her 1942 form is one of the most popular. This is not a scale model: the proportions are deliberately distorted, the build is simple and the finished little ship fits in the palm of your hand. Even so the model keeps the characteristic features of the original including the flight deck and the island superstructure.
Zuikaku, together with her sister ship Shokaku, was among the most successful Japanese aircraft carriers. She entered service in 1941 and her aircraft took part in the attack on Pearl Harbor. The year 1942, which the kit recalls, was the peak of her career — she fought in the Coral Sea and off the Santa Cruz Islands. As the last of the carriers that took part in the attack on Pearl Harbor, she was sunk in October 1944 off Cape Engaño during the Battle of Leyte Gulf.
Thanks to the small number of parts this is a quick build with no filling. Brush the hull in naval gray, set the flight deck apart with a wooden or darker shade, and the deck markings will complete the finished impression. Bond the small parts with tweezers and a minimum of glue. Clean painting without pronounced weathering goes best with the cute styling of the line.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
