A modeling paint from the Orange Line range by Hataka, a dark brown referring to the standardized shade RAL 8017. RAL is a German industrial chart of color shades that is still in use today, so the number in the name points at a precisely defined brown, and using the same number you can trace the shade with other brands too. It is a full, dark brown, without the red cast of rust and without the gray cast of dust.
A dark brown is a universal color on a model. It serves as a base under wood, leather and canvas, on boxes, drums and cargo equipment, on the earthy surfaces of a diorama and on the dark brown finishes of vehicles and construction machinery. It also works well as a muting tone: mixed into another color it takes the freshness away and moves it closer to a worn surface used for years. On small parts it goes dark at once, though, so on areas where the texture is meant to show, add a lighter cast from above.
A dark shade tempts you to put it on all at once and heavily, but a single heavy coat floods the engraving and wipes out the raised detail. Judge the resulting tone on a sprayed and dried sample, not on the paint in the bottle. Close the bottle carefully after use and store it dry, out of direct sunlight and out of the reach of children.
The paint is supplied. The model, the thinner, varnish and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
