Clear Red 17 ml.

The color

A clear red differs from covering paints in that it does not hide the surface but tints it. What lies underneath stays visible, so it suits clear parts and places where the paint is meant to let light through: position and tail lights, lamp covers, the lenses of instruments and warning lights and the clear red elements of vehicles. At the same time it serves as a color filter for toning an already painted surface toward a warmer tone.

How to apply the paint

The result is decided by what is underneath. On a light or silver surface a bright red light appears, on a dark one a dark ruby, and on untreated flat plastic rather a dirty smear. So clean clear parts perfectly first and leave them smooth, and let painted surfaces dry. Control the saturation by the number of coats, not by their thickness: every further coat deepens the shade, while one heavy coat leaves blotches and brush marks. Stir the bottle before use and thin it with the thinner intended for this range of paints, in the ratio stated by the manufacturer.

Building and painting tips

With lamps a two-step procedure works well: spray the surface under the clear part with a silver or white shade first and only then lay the clear red over it. The lamp then has depth and does not look like a flat dot. A brush handles small areas, while an airbrush is more even on larger clear covers. Count on the shade showing on the model only once it has dried; while the coat is wet it looks more saturated.

Who it is for

For modelers who paint clear lights and transparent parts or who want to tone already painted surfaces. The bottle holds 17 ml of paint; thinner and other accessories are not included, unless stated otherwise.
