Clear Yellow is a water-based acrylic paint of the 3rd Generation range by AK interactive in a bottle holding 17 ml. The first piece of information is the crucial one: it is a transparent toning paint, not an opaque shade. Laid over a light base it tints it yellow but does not hide it, and on a dark base it practically disappears. Anyone expecting it to cover the base like an ordinary yellow will be disappointed, as this product serves a different purpose.
Transparent paints do not cover by the thickness of a coat but by repeating it. They are thinned considerably more than opaque shades and applied in several very thin passes with drying in between, so the depth builds up gradually and stays under your control. One heavy coat, by contrast, creates uneven blotches and darker pools in the recesses, because a thin glaze naturally runs into engraved lines and toward the edges of a part. On vertical surfaces spray in smaller amounts and keep checking whether the paint is gathering at the lower edge.
For modelers who already handle basic painting and want to work with effects: lights, translucency and color glazes. Do not buy it as an ordinary yellow for a large area, as the opaque shades of the range serve for that.
