A Hataka modeling paint from the Orange Line range in the shade Cobalt Blue to the RAL 5013 standard.
Responsibility details are not available.
Cobalt Blue is a saturated dark blue defined exactly by the code RAL 5013. The RAL scale describes a shade bindingly, so you do not have to rely on a photograph or on a verbal comparison: where the real subject has a code given, you reach straight for the right bottle. In modeling, dark blues come into their own on vehicles with striking finishes, on machinery, on civilian vehicles and anywhere a scene is meant to get a color accent.
Dark shades behave differently from light ones. They cover well, but they swallow the shadow, so a model in them looks flatter than it should. It therefore pays to build the surface up in layers: leave the base dark and lighten the areas in the middle of the panels with the shade plus a drop of a lighter paint, while leaving the edges full. A wash is almost invisible on a dark blue; drybrushing and picking out the edges do a better job. Under decals a gloss surface is necessary, because on a flat dark paint a silvery rim around the elements forms particularly easily.
Shake the bottle thoroughly before use, in standing paint the pigment settles at the bottom. Choose thinner and thinning ratio according to the instructions given by the manufacturer on the packaging and use the thinner intended for this range. Apply in thin coats and let each one flash off; with saturated colors a heavy coat easily floods the engraving. The substrate has to be clean and degreased. Clean the airbrush and the brushes with the product recommended for this range.
The paint is supplied on its own. Thinner, the model and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
