What a palette is good for

A palette is an unobtrusive aid that saves a great deal of annoyance. You take a small amount of paint onto it, so you do not dip a brush into the bottle and carry neither thinner nor dirt from the model into it. The rest of your stock therefore stays as it was. At the same time you have somewhere to spread the paint out, to watch how it covers and to mix in an extra drop of a shade until the tone is right.

How to work with it

Always take only as much paint as you will use shortly, because a larger pool on a palette dries faster than you can make use of it. Mix in one well and note the proportions of a shade you will need again, otherwise you will not reach the same tone a second time. Add thinner drop by drop and stir until the paint has the same consistency across the whole area.

Who it suits

For anyone who paints with a brush as well as with an airbrush. With a brush you will appreciate being able to take the paint out in small amounts, and with an airbrush the fact that you mix the exact ratio of paint and thinner on the palette beforehand and only then fill the cup.

Maintenance

• clean the palette immediately after work, because dried paint is far harder to remove
• use a product recommended for the given paint line for cleaning
• do not use coarse abrasive material, because a scratched surface is then even harder to clean
• let the palette dry completely before putting it away
• the manufacturer gives the exact form and dimensions on the packaging
