This item is not a ship model, but one ready-made part. It is a ship propeller of 19 mm diameter, that is, a propulsion item which on wooden models of motor ships, tugs, fishing boats and steam launches is fitted to the shaft projecting under the stern. Besides the rudder, the propeller is the most conspicuous detail of the whole underwater part of the hull, so it is really worth having on models built on a keel or on a stand.
The part is fitted only once the planking of the hull is finished and the underwater part has been sanded, when the shaft tube is seated and a shaft passes through it. Always compare the diameter of 19 mm with what your subject and the scale of the model can carry. Too large a propeller looks unnatural on a small boat, too small a one disappears under the outline of the stern. The number of blades and the material are stated on the packaging of the part.
Free the casting of flash and check whether the hub lines up with your shaft; if need be, redrill the hole carefully. On the shaft the propeller is fixed with super glue or with a small pin. For the surface finish, either polished metal, which is simply freed of oxidation and treated with a protective varnish, or a classic brass or bronze imitation suits. The underwater part around the propeller is usually weathered with a dark wash, so that the transition between the hull and the shaft does not look new and clean.
It is a separate accessory, not a complete ship model. The shaft, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
