A modular building jig for motorcycle models 1:12

This is a tool, not a model. Building a motorcycle model has one trouble you do not know from a car or an aircraft: the model has nowhere to stand. The frame hangs in mid-air, the wheels have to be set parallel, the wheelbase has to be right and the chain is stretched between two points that are not yet resting on anything. This jig is built for exactly that. It consists of modular sections that are assembled to the dimensions of a particular model, and of holders that grip the model by the wheels, by the swingarm pivot, by the fork or by the front axle, depending on the stage of the build you are at. Your hands stay free. The assembly holds 3D printed and metal parts alike and can be extended with further accessories.

Use

• Put the assembly together to the dimensions of the model before you start gluing.
• Clamp the model by its solid points, that is, by the axles and the fork, not by the fairing.
• Check the wheels for parallelism by looking from above, not from the side.
• When gluing the chain, leave the model in the jig until the joint has cured completely.
• Store the sections together after use, as a single piece gets lost in a drawer.

Who it is for

The jig is for experienced motorcycle modelers who build demanding models and want the build under control from the first part on. For a one-off build of a single kit it is equipment beyond what is needed, but with repeated work it shows in the accuracy of the result.

It is not a model. The kit, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
