Cuted Masking Tape Sheet (width 0.8mm)

A sheet of pre-cut Artwox Model masking tape - 0.8 mm wide

This is neither a kit nor a mask cut for a particular model. It is a consumable modeling item: a sheet of masking tape already cut at the factory into straight strips 0.8 mm wide. You take finished narrow tapes from it, and the most tedious part of masking falls away, that is, cutting thin strips with a ruler and a knife on a glass mat, where the tape slips and the width varies. Because all the strips are the same width, the resulting lines on the model hold a uniform thickness as well.

Use

• Bounding camouflage fields and dividing lines where the transition is to be hard and straight.
• Edging glazing, doors, covers and panels before spraying the neighboring color.
• Masking thin stripes, identification bands, borders and frames without cutting by hand.
• Fixing larger masks and paper fillers at edges where wide tape would reach into another area.
• Work on curves: a narrow strip bends markedly better than wide tape and creases less.

How to work with the tape

Degrease the area before masking and let the previous coat of paint dry out thoroughly, or the tape will peel the paint off with it on removal. Lay the strip on, run it along the edge and press it down with a fingernail or a toothpick, so that no air is left under the edge; that is exactly where paint creeps under. On color transitions it helps to spray the edge first with a thin coat of the original shade; it seals any gap and the next color can no longer get under the tape. Spray in thin coats and take the tape off at a sharp angle while the paint is still fresh.
