The ninth issue of the Damaged modeling magazine, devoted to the wear and damage of models.
Responsibility details are not available.
Damaged is a modeling magazine focused on wear and damage, that is on the part of a build that turns a clean model into a machine with a history. The individual issues come out one after another and each of them stands on its own; this is issue nine. Other parts of the series are available as well, so the whole run can be completed. The magazine can be read without knowing the previous parts.
The subject is the look of a vehicle after time spent in service: worn paint, dust and mud, traces of rust, leaked fluids, clouded glass and a damaged surface. It is exactly these layers that decide whether a model looks convincing, and yet kit instructions usually do not cover them at all.
It suits modelers who already handle the basic build and painting and want to move on to working with shades, layers and surface effects. It is useful no matter whether you build vehicles, aircraft or scenic settings, because the principles of wear are similar across the fields.
The magazine reads well at the bench beside a model under construction, where the procedure can be tried out on a test piece straight away. Before you start work on a finished model, it pays to try the effect on a plastic offcut with the same finish. Most weathering techniques cannot be taken back, and the difference between a successful and an overdone result usually lies only in the degree.
This is a printed publication. Models, paints and tools are not included, unless stated otherwise.
