Dark Brown RLM 61 is a dark brown shade from the Hataka Orange Line range, carried under the manufacturer's part number HTK-C168. The RLM designation comes from the German regulated system of aircraft shades, and in it the number 61 belongs to the dark brown that covered the upper surfaces of machines in the prewar period and at the beginning of the Second World War. During the war newer dark green schemes replaced it on most types, so RLM 61 remains the color of early machines.
In early schemes the brown was not used on its own: it formed a pair with the green and both colors met on the upper surfaces in sharply angled shapes. For a model that has a practical consequence. The boundary between the fields has to be sharp, that is, masked with tape or a stencil, not sprayed freehand. On these schemes the side of the fuselage tends to be the dividing line between the dark upper surfaces and the light underside.
Stir the bottle well, a dark pigment settles quickly. The thinner intended for this range and the thinning ratio are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging. Dark shades cover well, but all the more easily they flood fine details, so apply light coats and let the surface flash off in between. Lay masking tape only on a cured coat, otherwise the edge will tear away. Try the shade on a piece of scrap plastic beforehand.
The model, thinner, brushes and airbrushes are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
