Two-tone turfs – spring combine two spring shades of green in a single finished grassy piece. The irregular coloring looks more natural than uniform growth.
Responsibility details are not available.
A finished painted turf from the Czech manufacturer Model Scene, ready to be laid into a diorama straight away. The two-tone version means that the growth is not uniform — it combines two close spring shades, so lighter and darker spots appear on the turf. That is the main reason for reaching for the two-tone version: a real meadow never has the same color across its whole surface, because moisture, shade and the make-up of the soil change every meter. The eye reads uniform growth as a model at once.
The base is the fresh green of young grass of the kind that grows roughly from April to the beginning of June, complemented by a second, differently rich green tone. Seasonally the turf therefore belongs to scenes from the start of the growing season: muddy tracks, the first fieldwork, melting snow in the foothills, civilian scenes in spring. In a scene it sets the time of year very clearly, so do not mix it with autumn leaf litter or with parched terrain.
Coat the cleaned base with a thin layer of PVA glue, press the turf down and leave it weighted until dry. Thin the edges out with tweezers into an irregular shape and cover the transition into the terrain with soil or sand. With a two-tone turf it pays to think the orientation through: place the darker areas where the shade of a tree, a wall or a slope would fall in reality, and the lighter ones on sunlit spots. Lay several pieces so that the areas of color do not meet regularly.
The turfs are supplied finished and painted. The glue, the base and any further scenery materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
