About product

AMMO DRYBRUSH Blue — an acrylic paint for the dry brush

A blue shade from a range of paints whose consistency and pigmentation are prepared directly for drybrushing. It is an opaque water-based acrylic, not a liquid effect. The difference is fundamental and worth stating straight away: a wash is thin and runs into the recesses, a filter shifts the tone of a whole area and a paneliner is drawn into engraved lines. This paint does exactly the opposite — it stays on top, on the edges and the raised texture, and pulls the shape into the light.

How to work with it

  • Pick up a small amount and wipe it off on a paper towel until the brush no longer leaves a continuous mark.
  • Make short strokes across the edge; repeat them several times rather than pressing hard once.
  • Use a stiff brush with short bristles, ideally one that is already worn — the technique breaks the bristles down.
  • Do not thin it. Thinned paint runs down and the effect is turned inside out.
  • Rinse the brush with water immediately after work, because dried acrylic cannot be got out of the bristles.

Where blue comes into its own

On blue camouflage and painted surfaces of aircraft and ships, on blue parts of civilian and industrial equipment and on the blue clothing of figures. As a deeper tone it also suits places where you want to bring out the shape only discreetly, without a strong contrast of light. It also comes into its own when suggesting chipped paint over a dark base.

Who it is for

For modelers who want drybrush shades ready without mixing, and for beginners who are still learning the technique — the thick consistency makes the result more predictable than improvising with an ordinary paint.

Close the pot carefully after use. Keep out of the reach of children and do not let the paint dry in a brush.

FAQ

A wash is thin and runs into the recesses, where it brings out shadow. This paint is thick and stays on the raised edges, where it creates light. They are opposite techniques.

It is opaque, so technically yes, but its thickness is set for drybrushing. For a smooth finish over a whole area, ordinary modeling acrylics are more suitable.

Water, straight after use. Dried acrylic cannot be got out of the bristles without an aggressive cleaner.

Not a special one, but a stiff and rather worn one, yes. The technique ruins brushes, which is why fine pointed ones are not used for it.
