Dual Exo Set 5, 5A Supernova Red and 5B Dirty Red

Dual Exo is an acrylic color range from the AK interactive brand with the shades arranged into pairs marked with the letters A and B. Set number 5 brings the pair Supernova Red and Dirty Red together. Paints of the same names are also made individually, in the acrylic range with a satin finish, so the coat is semi-gloss and looks silky on a model.

Both names point to red, one to a stronger and the other to a dirtied version. Such a pair suits cases where an area is meant to look alive but not flat: the more saturated tone forms the base and the dirtied one serves to weaken the brightness of the color in the shadows and to suggest wear. With red shades it generally holds that over a dark base they need more thin coats, so it pays to choose a lighter base. A satin finish is at the same time practical under decals and stands up to later weathering.

Use

• An acrylic paint for plastic, resin and 3D printed parts, preferably on a degreased and primed surface.
• It is applied with a brush as well as an airbrush in several thin coats with a pause to dry.
• The more saturated shade for the area, the dirtied one in the shadows and to suggest wear.
• Red tones look more even over a lighter base.
• Shake the bottle well before use, as the pigment sinks to the bottom when standing.
