A Hataka modeling paint from the Orange Line, the Earth Red shade under the number FS 30117. A red-brown earthy tone for camouflage and for dusting a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
Earth Red is a red-brown earthy tone. The number FS 30117 in the name refers to the Federal Standard color set; the opening three in it marks a matte finish, so on a model the shade does not shine and does not compete with the final varnish.
Red-brown tones serve twice over on models: once as a full covering color in camouflage schemes, and again as the basis of dusty and muddy surfaces, where they are laid in a thin coat over a finished paint job. They also mix well into transitional shades, because the tone is dark but not black and does not dirty the neighboring color toward gray. The paint comes from Hataka's Orange Line. On small parts it can be applied with a brush; on large areas it comes out more evenly from an airbrush.
Stir the paint thoroughly before use; otherwise settled pigment stays at the bottom and the shade comes out weaker. Wash and degrease the surface of the model beforehand and let it dry. Apply in several thin coats and let each coat become tacky in between; one heavy coat pulls together into beads and fills the engraving. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging for the thinner and the thinning ratio and use the thinner intended for this line, as a foreign thinner can curdle the paint.
For builders of military vehicles and aircraft who want a particular earthy shade to a color set and do not want to mix it from several paints. The package holds this paint only; the model, thinner, varnish and a brush are not included, unless stated otherwise.
