A universal masking set from the universal mask line by Armycast. Curved shapes are cut into self-adhesive vinyl film, that is ellipses, parabolas and spirals, with a constant line width of 1.0 mm. The package holds one sheet. These are not decals but a masking aid for the airbrush: the shape is stuck on the surface and the paint is sprayed over it.
Curved lines are very hard to spray freehand, because even a slight hesitation shows at once on a finished model. Pre-cut ellipses and parabolas therefore make oval outlines and smooth transitions between camouflage fields easier, while the spirals serve for the classic spiral markings on propeller spinners. The constant width of 1.0 mm guarantees that the line stays equally thick along its whole length. The shapes are not tied to a particular type of subject or to a scale, and you will use them on aircraft just as on vehicles or ships.
The surface of the model has to be smooth, degreased and fully cured before the mask goes on. Lift the mask off the backing sheet with sharp tweezers, lay it in place and press the edges down carefully with a toothpick or a wooden stick, so that no paint runs under the film. Spray several very thin coats; paint laid on heavily forms a ridge at the edge of the mask that shows once it is uncovered. Remove the film shortly after it has dried, pulling sideways at a shallow angle. Vinyl holds more reliably on a smooth gloss finish than on a rough matte one; excessive tack can be reduced by sticking the mask briefly to a clean cloth.
The package holds masking film only. Paints, varnish and the model are not included in the package.
