About product

Flyhawk photo-etched anti-slip deck in 1:700 scale

This is not a ship kit but a photo-etched detail accessory. The set holds brass photo-etched parts with the fine pattern of the anti-slip, non-skid surface applied to the decks of modern ships and warships. Stuck onto the deck of a model in 1:700 scale, it gives you a relief texture that plastic on its own cannot capture faithfully.

The real subject

The anti-slip treatment of decks kept the crew from slipping in the wet and is a typical feature of ships' decks. It creates a characteristic fine pattern which, once painted and lightly brought out, does a great deal to liven up otherwise smooth plastic surfaces.

Building and painting tips

Cut the photo-etched sheets to the shape of the deck and trim them with photo-etch shears where needed. Glue them with a thin layer of cyanoacrylate glue or with contact adhesive so that the part adheres over its whole area without bubbles. Degrease the parts before painting and go over them with primer; the texture comes out beautifully after a dry brush or a dust wash.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of ships in 1:700 scale
  • Modelers after a faithful deck texture
  • Experienced users of photo-etched parts
  • Collectors of universal naval accessories

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base model, glue, paints and other parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
